Our Projects

Every once in a while a truly special project comes along.

Most frequently it is the property that provides unusual potential, but in this case, it was two unique clients with interesting ideas and a challenging brief. We met when they were debating the purchase of a pre-finished house on Clapham Common Northside, or another along the row that required full refurbishment and extensions. They chose the latter and so began an inspiring collaboration.

The scope of works required the redesign of just about everything in the building, including an enlarged full-width basement, ground floor extension and roof terrace. With the architectural designs completed, we submitted for planning and set about the interior design. This required a delicate balance between two clients with clear preferences, the traditional styling of the elegant Victorian mansion terrace, the need for ultra-practical functionality and the desire for playful experimentation.

The reward from a designer’s perspective was the opportunity to go about designing absolutely everything inside, and several elements outside the building. This included 3D modelling of the elegant new staircase, kitchen, master suite, bathrooms, wardrobes, custom plasterwork, panelling and features.

Designed Features

This project incorporates a lot of different design features including:

  • Ground floor layout transformed to light, bright open plan
  • Bespoke new staircase with oak treads and curving lower steps
  • Custom kitchen ergonomically designed to the client’s detailed preferences
  • Master suite enviably appointed with bespoke detailing throughout
  • Glass artwork entrance screen by Bradley Besso
  • New panelling, cornicing and mouldings transform the interior
  • Custom joinery throughout the house to our detailed designs

Craftsmen of all disciplines received their drawings and set to work creating bespoke installations throughout the building. Joinery, stonework, plasterwork, steelwork, and glasswork, not to mention a full year’s input by a skilled team of Polish builders. We introduced each trade and they all worked in concert within our co-management relationship with the owners.

The result has been immensely rewarding on all levels. The house is transformed and future-proofed for the foreseeable future. The most valuable outcome has been the pleasure this house conversion has created and the firm friendship that evolved with its new occupants.

Peter was the architect on our Clapham townhouse. He was the mastermind behind the entire renovation and worked on all elements of the house. His attention to detail is outstanding, and he is excellent at visualising (and helping the client visualise) what the final result will look like. He is charming to work with, but not afraid to tell you when something really won’t work. We would recommend him very highly, especially for a large project.
